Kim
Paterson
grew
up
in
Clydebank.
She
studied
Embroidered
and
Woven
Textile
Design
at
the
Glasgow
School
of
Art.
From
1990-1993,
under
the
artistic
direction
of
Clare
Higney,
Kim
worked
as
a
textile
artist
and
project
designer
for
Needleworks
Enterprises
and
Needleworks
Limited
(Glasgow’s
first
community
business).
During
this
time
many
commercial
commissions
and
projects
promoting
the
social
use
of
sewing
were
completed
including
“Textures
of
the
City”,
which
developed
into
an
“open
art school” exhibition at Glasgow’s Collins gallery in 1992.
Following
the
birth
of
her
son
in
1992,
whilst
working
freelance,
Kim
began
to
make
both
costumes
and
processional
imagery
for
many
public
events
and
festivals.
Work
in
this
field
led
her
to
study
alongside
Stephen
Foster as a student of John Blundall between 1996 - 1998.
Kim
worked
with
The
World
Through
Wooden
Eyes
as
a
seamstress,
costume
maker
and
workshop
leader.
She
has
written
for
the
puppet
theatre,
narrating
“Segurotchka”
(The
Snow
Maiden)
over
Christmas
in
2007.
Kim
worked
part-time
as
handwork
tutor
in
the
Glasgow
Steiner
School
and
continues
to
develop
a
growing
interest
in
the
imagination
of
the young child and its relationship to learning and play.
